Diana Slip, the lingerie company whose whips and frills were captured by the likes of Brassaï, Jean Moral and Roger Schall - "Original Price 20 francs"

Simone Bouchez [ed.] - Diana Slip: Lingeries Libertines, No 1 September - 1933 - 9 Rue Richepanse, Paris - Stapled wrappers - 27x18 cm.

Condition : good. with slightly grubby covers and a small split at the base of the spine about 3cm with minor loss not impacting on illustrations (see images), mysteriously stamped in red at top front cover "PROPAGANDE".

Between 1933 and 1934, three issues of a periodical were edited by Simone Bouchez, titled Lingeries Libertines. This issue illustrated with 42 Black and white photographs by a combination of Brassai and Roger Schall et al.

¶ The Diana Slip Company was founded in the 1930s by Léon Vidal and commissioned renowned photographers Roger Schall and Brassaï to communicate their seductive vision. Offering chiffon ouverts, thigh-high boots and plenty of whips, theirs was a brand that celebrated S&M subversion in its most elegantly refined form.In the 1930s, Léon Vidal created Les Editions Gauloise (later, Les Libraires Nouvelles): a company which comprised a diverse assortment of boutiques, bookshops and manufacturers, each devoted to fulfilling fetishists' every desire. Diana Slip formed part of this network and, as well as offering lingerie (“très suggestifs” reads their advertisement, which offers “toutes les commandes particulières”), the Parisian store, located at number 9 Rue Richepanse in the 8ème, contained everything from racy reading materials to aphrodisiacs and rare erotic photography. “Would you like to read something really daring?” asks one advertisement. “My collection contains the most audacious, the most licentious books published in English. (Illustrated)." For those who couldn't make it down to the store itself but were still in want of a suggestive lace robe or a full rubber outfit, Diana Slip offered discreet courier shipping.

Leon Vidal was a pioneer in the business of the lingerie. His brand was involved in the production of fetish lingerie, condoms, photos and erotic books. Involved in the publication of Editions du Couvre-Feu, Editions d'Antin, Editions Richepanse. The name Diana Slip was also used for authorship of flagellation novels illustrated by Wighead and KLEM.
