Made by Charles Gibson, Bulger-style splice head driver. (The Fishing Rod Driver)
Driver in Bulgar-style with a splice neck. Made by Charles Gibson circa 1892, he was working at the Royal North Devon Golf Club in Westward Ho in Devonshire. He worked there for almost 50 years, he had his club making company there, and later on his children. The club is his famous Fishing Rod Driver that is attributed to him, named for its extra long shaft (105 cm) and flexibility (whippy shaft). Leather insert with diagonal lines. The club is made for W. Rea. The shaft is marked C Gibson Westward HO. It probably had another leather grip at some point, otherwise it’s good, original and straight.

This not your normal socket head wood but it has a splice head to the shaft. This type of head/shaft connection generally went out of favour in the early 1900s and was replaced by the drilled socket wood head shaft connections. Leather insert face, shaft marked C Gibson Westward HO. This is a so-called Fishing Rod Driver, extra long, whippy shaft (105 cm). Probably second leather grip, original and straight.
