These kind of "rings with rider" were the personal property of a "Hogon" - DOGON priest or of a distinguished family head and were usually worn as a pendant around the neck.
Both the horse and the copper were related to the divine "Nommo".
The spiral on the shield refers to both the origin of the universe as to the progression of the generations.
