A magnificent Wheelchair from 1954 with emblem "Presented by Prairie Farmer Station WLS Christmas Neighbors Club 1954. Prairie Farmer, WLS was an American radio station. 
The wheelchair is in a good used condition. However, over the years, the wood of the seat started to work. This caused the slat on the front to become loose. This needs to be glued. The original screws of the handles on the wheels have been replaced by new ones.
The wheelchair is fine otherwise, and is equipped with sliding and folding parts to put your legs on. The backrest is also adjustable, so that bedridden patients could be driven around in it. The tyres are made of hard rubber, so they could never run empty.
The idea to offer wheelchairs, inhalers, radios and other items to offer to hospitals when they need them, was born in 1935. They were donated to thousands of hospitals, children's homes and other health care facilities in the mid-west. These gifts represented the "Share with others" – thought of the friendly, loyal audience of Prairie Farmmer WLS.
The last picture is a picture of the 30 year anniversary of the club (1924-1954), with a picture of the then offered wheelchairs and people who use it.
