Landscape with figures, signed oil on canvas; dimension: 31.5 x 40 cm.
Beautiful landscape of the 17th-century master Pieter Bout. The museological piece shows a building with a round tower, a boat in a river and a village on the water in the distance. In the landscape are a multitude of figures and animals. It is a very diverse work in which there is much to discover; a resting farmer's wife with a child, traders and hikers with a dog, fishing men on the river, etc.
Pieter Bout (1640/1658 – 1689/1719) was a Flemish painter and etcher. He is mainly known for his landscapes, cityscapes and architectural works, painted in a style very reminiscent of Flemish masters such as Jan Brueghel and David Teniers. Bout worked with Adriaen Frans Boudewijns a lot (1644-1719). His paintings are in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, among other places.
The painting is valued in 1975 by the renowned auction house Christies at an auction yield of more than 22,000 euro (converted) (this certificate of authenticity by Christie´s Amsterdam will be included with the painting).
