This is a hand-knotted Mir rug, made of durable and natural materials. Imperfections in the patterns and shape make this rug unique and emphasise its authentic and traditional character.
This Mir was knotted in India; originally, Mir rugs were knotted in Iran.
Mir rugs are knotted in the mountainous area in and around Arak, in western Iran.
Characteristic for a Mir is the contemporary design, called Boteh or Paisley pattern, a droplet shape with the tips pointing in one direction. A Mir often has a continuous pattern, but some have a medallion and corner patterns.
Mir rugs are durable rugs, made of wool on a cotton warp (bobbin thread), they are often thick, full rugs with an exceptionally high durability.
This is a used carpet, the carpets have often become more beautiful and richer in character due to the natural ageing process.
