Delft, circa 1760

A Dutch Delftware butterdish and cover made in circa 1760. It was part of a set of four that together make up the four seasons (see image in Christies catalogue). The figure on this pie pot is the Fall.

The piece is composed, the jar is marked with an axe for Plateelbakkerij De Porceleyene Bijl. The lid is marked AP for Anthonij Pennis, owner of the Plateelbakkerij De Twee Scheepjes between 1750 and 1770. The Christie's catalogue shows that the original pot was similar.

Condition: a loose chip, edge chips of the lid and pot, glaze flakes of the figure, right arm restored, small restoration to the inside of the lid.

Height 15.5 cm, diameter 12 cm.
