Richard Roberts - The unfinished programme of Democracy - The Swarthmore Press Ltd - No date - 326 pages - octavo - hardcover with dust jacket - excellent condition
First edition sent to Cécil Georges Bazile for the purpose of being translated into French is not a matter of chance. indeed, Cécil Georges-Bazile is at this time editor and secretary of an anarchist newspaper, the "Bonnet Rouge", pacifist.
This is a copy of the first edition sent to Cécil Georges-Bazile, author, translator and French printer who had the privilege of translating the works of Oscar Wilde or H.G. Wells among others.
On the strength of these appreciated translations, Cécil Georges-Bazile never ceased to solicit various English and American authors. An impressive collection of dedications or signed letters from these authors, such as H.G. Wells, for example, was produced and regularly received signed or unwritten presentations in the event of translation. Most of the works are also signed by Cécil Georges-Bazile (see my other auction lots).
