...One of the major projects in the engraving history of the 16th century was the Natalis bible. It is considered not only as a monument of the 16th century's book illustration but also as one of the greatest achievements of the Flemish graphical art (Delen page 101). These engravings testimony of the virtuoso engraving style of the Wierix school. A turning point of the copper engraving in favour to the woodcut.
