20th century - Good condition
Authentic and rare small Katanga cross from Congo.
Made of copper that has discoloured by oxidation.
These crosses were used as money until early 1900.
They were originally introduced by the Portuguese in the 18th century who used them as exchange for merchandise and slaves.
This is a very fine specimen that should have its place in a collection of African money.
Dimensions: 7 x 3 x 0.5 cm.
Weight: 30 grams.
Comes without stand.
