16 bound copies of the German propaganda magazine Signal, in very good, virtually perfect condition. Written in German. The Signals still have all pages, including the sought-after colour centrefold. A nice collection of the rarest Signals included in 1 binding.
It concerns the following issue numbers:
1944: issue number 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19
1945: issue number 1, 2, 3
The Signals from 1944 and 1945 were only published and distributed by the German occupier in limited numbers. The reason for this was that a (large) part of the German occupied areas were slowly liberated from 1944 onward. This makes the issues from mid 1944, and particularly from 1945, very rare.
Despite the fact that the Germans were losing the war, the tone of the articles is still positive.
‘Signal’ was a cleverly composed and richly illustrated bi-weekly war report with exciting war stories and many photos. With 2 translated editions and a total print run of over 2.5 million copies, it was the most read magazine in Europe during WW II. The first issue was published in April 1940 and the last in March 1945. Th Germans destroyed the archives of Signal at the end of the war.
