The Odiot brand was established in 1690 and gained fame under the guidance of Jean-Baptiste-Gaspard Odiot, who became master silversmith in 1720. His grandson Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot (born June 8, 1763, died 23 May 1850) acquired his master status on December 17, 1785. After the silversmith Henri Auguste declared bankruptcy in 1809, Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot purchased his models, tools and designs and soon replaced Auguste as silver supplier to Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Upon his retirement in 1823, his son Charles-Nicolas took over the company.
Charles-Nicolas Odiot (1789-1868) succeeded his father Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot and the official silver supplier to King Louis-Philippe and the Orléans family.
His son Jean-Baptiste-Gustave Odiot, installed at 72 Rue Basse-du-Rempart, registered his hallmark on 31 October, 1865; the hallmark was discontinued on 14 April, 1894.
