Wool on cotton – good condition
|Material:||Wool on cotton|
|Condition:||Overall in good condition|
On offer is a beautiful, hand-knotted original Persian carpet, Kashan,
Kashan is the name of a well-known type of Persian carpets. As there is no official translation between Persian/Arabic script and German/
Latin script, one can usually find differing spellings such as: Keschan, Keshan, Kaschan and Kashan.
Kashan carpets are some of the best classic Oriental carpets. The knotting is done with a Persian knot, not with the
much more common Turkish knots in Persian carpets. This knotting technique can probably be traced back to the Seljuqs and their invasion in the 11th
century, even though the oldest carpets have been found in graves as early as 400 B.C. The technique was perfected during the time of the Mongol rule
of the previous two centuries. This weaving technique of the Kashan carpets was
placed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010.
