A large earthenware sculpture of a dancer, completely painted by hand.
The sculpture is marked on the bottom with black paint and contains a number in red paint. The paint is partly worn off. ‘CIA MANNA TORINO’ is still legible.
The factory was founded by Mrs Manna, previously employed by Lenci, in the 1930s. The name of the factory is a combination of the founder and ‘Ceramica Italiana Artistica’ (Cia).
The dancing sculptures are some of the most sought after objects of CIA Manna.
This model is titled ‘The Italian Dancer’ and is from the 1940s.
Dimensions. Height = 50 cm. Maximum width = 31 cm. Maximum depth = 22 cm.
Weight = 2.6 kg.
1 chip/flake is missing off the bottom. A few flakes are missing off the bottom edge of the dress in 3 places, including 2 larger flakes in 1 spot (see photos). Otherwise the sculpture is in excellent condition.
