Here a print in early impression and nice plate tone, signed bottom left ALO GIO, from his series 'Vedute degli antichi vestigj di Roma' published in 1616. His etchings and certainly his series of Roman Ruins are very rare. He made only two series of prints. The British Museum holds his series of masks but not this series of Roman Ruins. Early and important but almost impossible to find. One very damaged one at Stanford university.
Full plate border and margins all around, narrow and remarginned at right . Good condition.

Aloisio Giovannoli (Italian; ; c. 1550 - 1618)
Printmaker and miniaturist worked in Rome. Made prints depicting ancient Rome, costumes and masks.
His work seems to be very rare. The British Museum holds a series of his masks.
During renaissance the appreciation for the antiques gained focus. Prints by Hieronymous Cock Battista Pittoni and Du Pérac offered a stunning view of how the Roman monuments looked like in the 16th century.
The prints by Aloisio Giovannoli (1550-1618) are nice additions in this field and rare to be found.
