Turkmen Yamout rug circa 1920 in red and brown colours in good condition
|Material:||Wool on cotton|
|Condition:||Overall in good condition with traces of ageing and usage|
Of all nomadic tribes who weave such unique carpets, those of Turkmen are among the most distinctive, as well as being the most inventive. Even among Turkmen rugs those made by Yamout tribes who incidentally were the largest group are even more distinctive. Even though Yamout rugs have the same designs like the rest of the Turkmen tribes, however patterns and the look of the motifs are different. This genuinely antique Yamout rug combines both unusual colours and design. Measuring 300cm x 200cm (9'8"x6'6") and made the first part of the 20th century has a dyrnak-gul design in main dark red field decorated with geometric motifs enclosed by multicolour borders of serrated stylised leafy vines and heraldic stepped devices. It is remarkably in good overall condition considering its age and is ready to furnish your home.
