Lithuanian, FRENKEL was born in 1959 in Vitebsk, hometown of Marc CHAGALL, but grew up in Minsk, Belarus. He came back to finish his studies in painting at the School Fine Arts of Vitebsk. Like Samuel Veksler and Losif Perelman, he belongs to the Vitebsk surrealist school and seeks his inspiration in the style often referred to as "Judaïca", for its use of Jewish symbolism and customs. Frenkel is a contemporary Russian artists, in the vein of Théo Tobiasse, promised a great future and who continues to rise at auctions in Paris (Hôtel Drouot), Enghien, London, Geneva and Amsterdam.
