Catherine (Ketty) Gilsoul-Hoppe (Düsseldorf 1868 - Elsene 1939)
was a Belgian artist, specialised in watercolours,
depicting landscapes, floral bouquets,
genre scenes, city and garden scenes and portraits.

Ketty Hoppe was taught by her father first. Later
she was taught by the historical painter Henri Hendrickx (1817-1894),
art teacher at the reputed Bisschoffsheim vocational school
in Sint-Joost-ten-Node. Girls who were not allowed to study at the Academy,
could go to this school. She finished her
degree at the watercolourist Edouard Tourteau (1846-1908) and in
the studio of the well-known post-romantic painter Jean-François
Portaels (1818-1895).

She married Victor Gilsoul in 1894, also a painter and
watercolourist. From then on, she signed her works with the name
Ketty Gilsoul-Hoppe. They settled in Brussels.

Later in life, she completely focused on painting
watercolours. Her works depict typical subjects,
characterised by a multicoloured, luministic palette and a skilled,
realistic implementation.

Her works are on display in the museums of Brussels, Elsene and Diks-
muide. Some of her works are also part of the royal collection.
