These simple, elementary, elegant and sympathetic lamps are based on a ship's porthole.
Designed by Alberto Meda, Francesco Meda, Paolo Rizzatto and Riccardo Sarfatti in 1992 for Luceplan, this model of the Metropoli wall/ceiling lamp is still carried in the current productrange of the populair Italian lampmanufacturer Luceplan.
Because of their humble appearance, these Metropoli's are often used in a row on large walls by interior decorators to create direction and intimacy.
The succes of the design might be explained by the ease of assembly and maintenance. By removing only one screw the diffuser can be removed for bulb replacement. Due to the fact that the Metropoli range carries both indoor and outdoor lamps, one can create a harmonious continuity between the interior and the exterior of a residency.
The lamps' structure consists of a diecast aluminium polished body and opal diffuser. With a total diameter of 27 centimeters and the highest point sticking out 10 centimeters off the wall/celing this size is, in combination with a sturdy but forgiving, polycarbonate diffuser, ideal for internal residential use. Separate waterproofing kits (not included) can be acquired from Luceplan to make these beauties suitable for outside usage. These lamps are intended for use with 230V and require two 18W G24d-2 fluorescent light sources (not included).
Both lamps come from an office building and are in used, vintage condition. The inside of the diffisor of both lamps shows discolouration, the inner part of both lamps shows typical signs of use such as a blackened back plate and aged plasitc housings of the starters. On the outside the aluminium is somewhat scratched as is the case with the diffusers. Nonetheless both still perfectly suited for use and daily joy.
The depicted lightsources are not included. The enclosed pictures form integral part of this lot description, with the exception of the last 5 pictures. The latter are internetpic's of similar lamps and serve illustrative purposes only.

The lamps were clearly offered as a "pick up at seller" lot...
Nonetheless I have carefully packed the lamps upon your special request after your agreement on the shipping costs.
After all the extra effort I put into wrapping the lamps in two separate packages it took me several messages to you, just to find out that I could keep the lamps since you are no longer interested.
An apology from you would have suited here but instead you have decided to give me negative feedback.
I suppose I cannot please all enough...
