Beautiful design in colour for a Christmas card from the 1940s. During his holidays (he was an art teacher in Haarlem), Pieck made watercolours for Christmas cards and birth announcement cards for publishing house “Kunst Adelt” in Maastricht. He always sent a preliminary sketch in black-and-white or colour to the publisher, to show what he wanted to make.
This here is such a sketch in colour, in which he outlined composition and colour of the watercolour he intended to make. We see Mary and Joseph in the nativity scene, with a small village in the background. The sheet of paper and the drawing itself are in good condition. Light vertical folds in the centre. The work is mounted on acid-free cardboard, leaving the fold hardly visible anymore.
Designs such as this were often discarded, but this publisher used to carefully store them.
This is a unique opportunity to obtain such a unique design in colour.
Will be carefully packaged and sent by registered mail.
