Comte Emmanuel de Las Cases - Le Mémorial de Sainte-Hélène - 4 volumes - 1969

Edition which includes 4 volumes - 1969, Jean de Bonnot - on the occasion of the "bicentennial of the birth of the Emperor" - 461, 483, 447 and 473 pages "Mon cher, a dit l’Empereur, en bien peu de mots, voilà pourtant toute mon histoire". Napoleon in Las Cases, St. Helena, Wednesday May 1, 1816 The Memorial of Sainte-Hélène is a story written by the count of Las Cases. It contains most of the reflections of Napoleon on his youth, the account of his campaigns as well as the vicissitudes of his captivity at St. Helena. Emmanuel de Las Cases collected memoirs during almost daily interviews with the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, during his stay in St. Helena. The story begins on June 20, 1815, two days after the battle of Waterloo. Supplemented by extracts from the memoirs of O'Meara and Antommarchi, doctors of the emperor in Saint Helena, the Memorial of "La Belle Poule" and biographical notes on Sir Hudson Lowe, the jailer of Napoleon. Las Cases is particularly critical of the policy of Governor Hudson Lowe, which earned him to see his manuscript seized upon his departure from the island in late 1816. It will be returned to him after the death of Napoleon in 1821. Contrary to a common misconception, Napoleon did not dictate his text, count Emmanuel de Las Cases always took completeness and originality Sumptuous edition, large quarto format - 28 x 21 cm - printed on laid paper - enriched with an exceptional iconography of many engravings, views of the battles by Carle Vernet and additional texts. Full binding "empire green leather". Spine and covers decorated with a pattern of fine golden palms in hollow - great imperial weapons at the centre of the covers - all golden edges.
