An Hiradaiko (平太鼓) is a traditional Japanese drum named after its short and flat body, Hira Daiko meaning "flat drum".
Thanks to its ageing and continued use, the drum I offer up in this auction has now a nice patina.
It has a short but wide body with animal skin drumheads on both its upper and bottom sides.
The paintings are very nice and we can still clearly see the bodies, tails and claws and one head of the dragons playing in the mid of the clouds.
This drum size is 35,5cm of diameter and 13 cm depth
Period likely 2nd half of 19th century.
There are no cracks on the leather skin and the sound is nice.
The nails and hook show signes of rust which is not surprising for a over 100 year old drum.
Will be sent with tracked parcel.
