The Dutch artist Herman Justus Kruyder was born in June 1881 in Lage Vuursche. Kruyder started as a house painter, but decided after short time that he wanted to do this professionally and become more proficient in the arts. After studying at the arts and crafts school in Haarlem, he worked in a glass studio in Delft.
In 1926 Herman Kruyder went through a serious mental crisis. As a result, he recoiled more and more from the outside world. Kruyder began living as a hermit and settled after a journey through Limburg in 1927 in Blaricum. In Blaricum Kruyder painted mostly small paintings. These pieces were among the highlights in his oeuvre.
Herman Kruyder died in April 1935 in Amsterdam.
