Original handwriting, written in Haarlem - 1470 - Vellum - 12.5 x 9.5 cm.
Condition: although more than 500 years old, it is still in good condition; the vellum is slightly browned and has a spot on the bottom of the text. Elements that determine the value: its rarity, quality, age and appeal. This would be a great piece in any serious collection.
The decoration in the margin: elegant pen decorations featuring a fountain that springs from the blue initial O and nerved leaves in red and green. For a detailed description see: ‘Kriezels, aubergines en takkenbossen’. Edited by Anne S. Korteweg. Walburg Pers Zutphen.
The text is in black and is derived from the Getijdenboek van Geert Grote van de Broeders des Gemenen Levens. He believed laymen should also be able to read the religious texts and replaced Latin with Dutch, even though the language hadn’t been standardised yet.
This is a manuscript on vellum (thin parchment made of animal skin) with a nicely decorated initial with pen-work in the margin. It is an original piece from the 15th century.
