Koen Scherpereel followed a training plastic arts in Ghent. After a short but productive career disaster struck. He died in 1997 after a long agony in the burns unit. Koen Scherpereel was active in the many forms of painting, was a poet, musician, and he designed jewellery. His works mainly show what a monumental artist and great colourist he was. He had a very good technical knowledge and a keen sense of composition. His figures - people, animals, demons, masks, ...-usually appear in open air under a blue sky. They always clearly show their opinion: fear, violence, sadness, security, ... His works are a clear mirror of his personality and colourful lifestyle. Painting to him was a kind of recreating, his dreams and desires into reality.
