A fine and large pair of ningyo doll of Jo and Uba from the legend of the Two Pines - with their box - Japan - Early 20th century
I put on auction an Jo and Uba, usually part of a Hinamatsuri dolls set.
Their story is one of the most famous of the Noh theatre repertoire with the title of Takasago.
It is considered a very auspicious story, involving a loving and long-married couple.

The Hinamatsuri (雛祭り), also called Doll's Day or Girls' Day, is a special day in Japan. Hinamatsuri is celebrated each year on March 3. Platforms are used to display a set of ornamental dolls (雛人形 hina-ningyo) representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period. Some of them, even modern one, can be quite expensive depending on the craftsmen skill and fame.
The dolls are in good condition for their age.
Some minor stains on the clothes.
