EWE Colon figurine (TOGO, Benin).
Statuette Colon Éwé (Togo, Benin).
Colon Ewe Zwillingsfigur.
The Éwé live in a coastal area which runs from Ghana, Togo and Benin, until the borders of Nigeria.
This Ewe figurine depicts a colon seated with dignity, wearing his venerable colonial helmet, which reminds us that the populations affected by colonisation copied, often with humour, the colonist or official passing through, but with features of their own statuary, well Europeanised here....
Let’s focus on the face in such a regular oval shape: the features are thin, the nose is strong, the moustache well crafted.
The ears are elaborate, the large eyes in the shape of almonds with dark pupils are highlighted by dark eyebrows.
With little clothing, besides a short, the overall seems to have been polished, in order to treat the rounded shapes.
A white coating covers this quite endearing character.
