This image can be found on page 42.

Katsushika Hokusai is one the most influential Japanese artist. Three of his most famous works are added to the foto's.

This image comes out Vol. 9 from an original series of 15 volumes. Vol 9 is a teaching handbook (e-dehon) containing 34 folded sheets (cho) with tri-colour illustrations (black sumi, light black sumi, and light vermilion) and text. With representations of people, plants and animals, fish, birds, mythological figures, landscapes, etc., covering 'all things in the universe'.

Vol 9 and this woodblock print can be found in the British Museum under museum number 1979,0305,0.428.9 It's available online, the photo that has been made by the museum of there print has been added for comparison (last photo before the most famous works).

The Hokusai Manga (北斎漫画, "Hokusai's Sketches") is a collection of sketches of various subjects by Katsushika Hokusai. Subjects of the sketches include landscapes, flora and fauna, everyday life and the supernatural. The Manga comprise literally thousands of images in 15 volumes, the first published in 1814, when the artist was 55.
