In antiquity, this property was known for its fruit culture and in particular the fishing pavie which gave its name to the future castle that was born in the nineteenth century. While property of the family Valette, the castle is classified "Premier Grand Cru Classé B" of Saint-Emilion in 1955. Since 1997 and the purchase of the property by Gerard Perse, the vintage goes from success to success. The updating of the classification of Saint-Emilion in 2012 sounds like the consecration with the promotion of the castle in "Premier Grand Cru Classé A". The vineyard of Pavia is the largest of all the 1st Crus of Saint-Emilion and also has the oldest vines of the appellation, some having already passed the century. Resulting from low yields (28-30 hl / ha) and manual harvesting, Pavia wines age up to 24 months in new oak barrels.
