J. van Leeuwen is a somewhat mysterious painter. It presumably is a pseudonym. He's definitely someone other than J.H.H. van Leeuwen (born in 1962), who mainly paints beach views and it is certain that this does not concern H. van Leeuwen van Oudewater. However, he must have been a contemporary of aforementioned painters, having regard to the depictions and the antiquity of his paintings. The present work is probably painted before the closure of the Afsluitdijk (see portrayal) and having regard to the age of the canvas. It is a particularly beautiful and colourful impressionistic work. When framed in a slightly nicer frame, it is a jewel for your wall.
