DECLARATION OF ORIGIN OF THE COLLECTION OF PRE-COLUMBIAN POTTERY

William van Harreveld (1940 - 2001) was a civil engineer who worked for the Netherlands Economic Institute, the World Bank, DHV and the Directorate General for International Cooperation. Between 1976 and 1978 he lived with his family in Colombia, Bogota, where Van Harreveld worked for the Colombian Ministry of Public Works.
In that period, Van Harreveld set up a collection of pre-Columbian pottery, a collection that would ultimately consist of more than 300 objects and which would originate from cultures such as Qumbaja, Tierra Dentro, San Augustin, Narino, Tairona, Cauca, Magdalena, Tamalameque and Tumaco. Van Harreveld also acquired several pieces from Ecuador. He bought the objects in the capital Bogota, in a boutique of the Hotel Tequendama.

In 1978 Van Harreveld left for the Netherlands again, and in 1996 he emigrated to Portugal. Until his death in 2001, the collection stood in his Portuguese living and working rooms. His widow moved to the Netherlands in 2012 and took the collection with him.
