This figure is from the Mambila tribe which lives in northeast Nigeria on the border of Cameroon.
The figure is known as ‘Tadep’ and represents the ancestors of the Mambila.
They were put on display for the protection of the villages and their inhabitants.
The figure is made of wood, has a lovely patina,
and around the neck wears a necklace of shells and coral.
