Two woodblock print booklets illustrated by Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865) - Japan - 1851
Both with a colour woodblock print as front, together they form a diptych.
These authentic ukiyo-e picture booklets are from a series that was printed between 1845 (弘化二年, kokka 2) and 1864 (文久二年, bunkyo 4). The offered books were printed in 1853 (嘉永四年, kaei 4).
Many interesting images, please see photo 13, 15 and 24, for example.
Clear and vibrant colours (front cover), nicely detailed. Polishing was used in the black parts of the clothing in the booklet on the left.
The two covers are also very suited to be placed in a passe-partout (photo 2). The mount is not included.
Measurements per booklet: 18 cm x 12 cm.
These booklets have barely been used, judging from the fact that they have no signs of wear.
Condition is fairly good, except for the wormholes. All pages suffer from this to a certain extent (including the front covers), some worse than others. Please see the photos for details, all pages have been photographed.
The books will be shipped by registered post in sturdy cardboard packaging.
