Wood block print of Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) (reprint) - "Groups of Mountain Cimbers" from the series "Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji" - Japan - around 1900
Title: Groups of Mountain Climbers
This image is the only composition in the Fuji series that does not show the mountain in its entirety. The image shows mountaineers climbing to Fuji's top. In a cave at the top right, climbers huddling together to protect themselves from the cold.
Original work dates from 1829-1833. This is a reprint from around 1900. Newly carved in woodblocks and printed on Japanese washi paper. The image has exactly the same size as the original work. The image has the Hokusai signature, the title of the series and the image, exactly the same signatures and seals as the original.
