This early stone-carved Telefomin door was collected in 1975 by a member of a caving expedition in the Eliptamin Valley.
It was made in the 1930s by FATUPNOK of the KUPELENMIN CLAN in the village of UPTEMTIGIN in the ELIPTAMIN Valley. After the death of Fatupnok, the door was owned by Belumnok and then Ilemsep, who then sold it to the Baptist Mission. It then went by plane to Wewak and from there by ship to the United States. In the late 1970s, the door was strengthened by the then owner with metal bands at the back, to prevent the emerging cracks from widening  further still. The piece is hung on an iron base and is 253 centimetres tall. I myself acquired it last year. It came by by plane from San Francisco to Dortmund and is now looking for a new home.
