Silver tobacco box, Jacob Abram Barbe, the Netherlands, The Hague, ca. 1775.
Lid beautifully decorated with sea-going vessels surrounded by decorations. The bottom engraved with an image of a woman sitting on the quay, probably waiting for the return of her captain.
The box was found in 1943 beneath the floor of a private house on the Oude Delft no. 66
This was stated on a note in the box when purchased in the 1970s.
Mark - little stork and IAB to the front beneath the closure - made by J.A. Barbe from The Hague.
Worked from 1765 to 1795.
Dimensions 14 x 7 cm, height 4 cm.
Weight: 183 grams.
