St. Louis, 6 wine glasses in cut crystal, Caton model - signed - 12.8 cm

6 signed red wine glasses in St Louis crystal, Caton model. A model in strong crystal dating from the second half of the 19th century, Caton was originally produced at the same time by Baccarat and St Louis, who at the time shared a single catalogue. Later, the model can be found in the Baccarat tableware catalogue from 1907, and in the 20th-century St Louis catalogues under the name of Caton. It has been able to last through the centuries without going out of fashion. This model in cut crystal is today one of the great classics of the Saint Louis glassworks. It has come to be appreciated everywhere (a service prized in embassies), by its very simple form, its density (the glasses are quite thick and very pleasant to hold in your hand). St Louis has kept up the production and sale of this range: glasses, carafes, knife rests, tumblers... have eventually been in the catalogues for more than 100 years (current price of the new glass: €99 to €110 depending on size). The model took on its definitive name during the first half of the 20th century. Our glasses, relatively recently produced, bear the stamp of the glassworks (it was only from 1936 that glassworks replaced the label taking the place of the signature, which would come off after several washes, by the famous stamp engraved with acid). They are in perfect condition, like new. Height: 12.8 cm Diameter: 7.5 cm
