Mahishasura is a buffalo demon in Hindu mythology, known for its deception and who pursued his evil ways by shape shifting into different forms Here Mahisha is represented in dual: on the buffalo's head, but he is also the buffalo itself.
He was eventually slain by the goddess Durga in her Mahishasuramardini shape. It is an important legend full of symbolism in Hindu mythology, especially in Shaktism. The legendary battle of Mahishasura as the evil forces and Durga as the good is told in the temples of many parts of South and Southeast Asia.
This statue of the originally Indian goddess was made in Thailand. The statue has a silver-like colour.
