The SBB Re 460, also called "lok 2000", is an electric locomotive for freight transport and passenger transport of the Swiss railway undertaking Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
In the 70s the SBB investigated which types of high-speed transport in Switzerland were applicable. In doing so, the project Bahn 2000 slowly took shape. A cost-benefit-analysis led to the conclusion that the infrastructure and rolling stock had to be suitable for a maximum speed of 200 km/h.
The locomotives that were required were developed and built by Schweizerische Lokomotiv-und Maschinenfabrik (SLM) in Winterthur and Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) in Zurich. The exterior of these locomotives was designed by the Italian design firm Pininfarina.
