Very stylish large Delft Cardinal Dish, attributed to Adriaan Kocx, factory De Grieksche A (The Greek A) 1687-1701, painted with a large heron, various songbirds amidst flowering plants and branches. Clusters of flowers, rocks and high grass on the border.
Possibly manufactured at De Grieksche A, under proprietor Adriaen Kocx. One can see a lot of similarities with his work. The colours (a greyish blue and a soft tone darker blue), style and objects can all be seen on other object by De Grieksche A:
1. The National Trust museum in the United kingdom owns a large marked/monogrammed AK for Adriaan Kocx dish, with a very similar cavetto border. (see before last picture please)
2. Aronson Antiquairs catalogue "The Dr. Gunther Grethe Collection" shows same heron and songbirds on different pieces , marked AK for Adriaan Kocx. (see very last picture please)
Dimensions: 39,6 cm diameter, 5,3 cm high
Condition: normal flaking/chipping for the age at the rim, corrected with easily reversible, professional Fynebond glaze (please see pictures)
middle front, small chip corrected with easily reversible, professional Fynebond glaze (please see pictures)
middle back, missing glaze filled with easily reversible, professional Fynebond glaze (please see pictures)
