These three very fine "master quality" Shakyamuni Buddha mandala's were hand painted and signed by the master artist Pemba Lama.
The gilded parts are also hand painted with 24K gold liquefied with natural resin from holy tree. The perfect transitions from dark to light colours show the talent and skills of the artist but also the quality of the mandala. This is obtained by painting with a fine pencil microscopic dot after dot. Cheaper mandala's are brushed and have only solid colour areas.
There are three qualities available on the market: student, medium and master quality. It takes more than one month to make this kind of exceptional quality. Since 2010 it is becoming difficult for the schools to find students willing to work so long with this precision. Students are mainly discouraged because it takes many years to reach this level of skills. So this kind of master work will become more and more exceptional with the time.
The Eightfold Path, is a central message of The Buddhas teachings on how to eliminate suffering by what is known as ‘the middle way’ and one of the Four Noble Truths of the Buddha’s dharma. A guide for individuals to reach nirvana and salvation from earthly suffering by understanding the causes of suffering, then taking responsibility of ones actions to live an ethical life.
The Four Noble Truths:
1 - Life is suffering. Life is a process of physical decay and for most people this is preceded by a struggle to survive and illness.
2 - Attachment causes suffering. People seek pleasure from possessions and sensuality, they develop egos and chase the very causes of negative karma so invariably the cycle of samsara continues. Nothing in the physical world can truthfully be said to be ‘mine’, equally there is no ‘I’.
3 - Suffering must end. People must alter their aspirations to break free of samsara, the cycle of rebirth.
4 - Suffering can end by following the Noble Eightfold Path.
This mandala was bought by myself, during Maoist revolution time, in Bhaktapur, Nepal (2006)
