Jour de Fête is a French film from 1949, directed by Jacques Tati. The film received several prizes, including the Grand Prix du Cinéma Français.
This was the first major film that Tati made. The film shows a postman in a rural village (Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre), who is isolated and disadvantaged compared to the rest of the modern world. The peaceful village also can’t seem to escape the modern era: a movie is shown for the first time on the 14th of July, the French National holiday, about the efficiency of the U.S. mail. In the film, postman François (played by Tati himself) watches how his colleagues in the United States deliver their post by car and even by plane. François delivers all of his post on bike and has now decided that he wants to ride his bike as fast as a car. The result is a series of stunts, done by Tati himself on the bicycle.
The film was released in 1949; it's not a 100% certain whether the poster originates from the same year or from a later date.
