Beautiful object, good condition with wear marks
The Tibetan Conch (shanka) is a shell covered with silver metal repoussé inlaid with Tibetan turquoises and carnelian.
In Tibetan Buddhism the shanka is one of eight auspicious symbols. It is a traditional Tibetan wind instrument, considered as the symbol of the power of the Buddha's speech range.
The proposed object is an old shell of large size covered with silver metal, very well worked (see photos), and decorated with cabochons in carnelian and Tibetan turquoise. On the conch there are 6 medallions representing the six "Ashtamangala", auspicious signs (2 are missing, see photo).
The metal work is very beautiful, on the top of Shanka You can distinguish auspicious animals, and on the bottom, the flowers (lotus?)
The silvery metal comes off a little at the sound end of the conch (see photos) which does not take anything away from the beauty of the object.
On the conch there is a sort of circular inclusion bearing traces of writing and a number whose origin and use are unknown to me.
The conch is from the middle of the 20th century.
