Arita bowl with landscapes and Chinese Chenghua mark - Japan - ca. 1760-90
Japanese Arita bowl from the mid-Edo period (1760-90), decorated in underglaze blue with four reserves containing landscapes. In the centre the "three friends of winter" - pine, prunus and bamboo. On the outside "takokarakusa".
Diameter 15 cm (6"),
Marked "Sei ka nen sei" - a spurious Chinese Chenghua reign mark.
