Painter John Bevort was educated at the Academy Artibus in Utrecht by Chris Agterberg and G. Nijenhuis.
John H.H. Bevort is mostly known for his naturalistic landscapes, which he painted with a palette knife.
Bevort settled in the North-Holland town of Schoorl around 1960 and is therefore known as the painter from Schoorl.
His work has been exhibited in, among others, the United States and Germany.
Bevort was also a member of the International Organization of Free Art.
The Montelbaanstoren is an Amsterdam tower from 1516 on the Oudeschans 2. The origin of the name is unknown. The tower is nicknamed ‘Malle Jaap’, as the bells of the tower would play randomly at irregular hours.
The “Montelbaanstoren” was built when medieval Amsterdam was expanded with the industrial area “Lastage” in order to connect it to the city. For this, a new canal was dug as the eastern side, de modern-day “Oude Schans”. Where this approached the IJ, it was placed as a defence tower in relation to the fortifications of Amsterdam.
