Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian - (ca. 98 - 93 million years) - Ceara, Brasil
Rarely offered bone fish Lepidotus sp. from the Cretaceous of Brazil.
The present copy is prepared from the concretion.
The inside of the concretion was transferred to a support plate is made of special resin and by etching, the surrounding rock was removed. This is an unusual and relatively seldom applied preparation method, but it gives a very detailed presentation of the piece. The etching takes several months, with intermediate steps of washing and fixing, before it can be further etched.
20 % of the front of the head was easily reconstructed.
Since the original matrix is dissolved in this preparation, the surface of the support plate was reconstructed, similar to the original substance dissolved away by the etching.
The fossil substance of the fish is original.
Size of the carrier plate: 245 x 590 mm
Thickness of the support plate: 18 mm i. M.
Size of the fish: 370 mm
Weight without packaging: 4,4 kg
