Gerhard Riebicke (1878-1957)
Young woman naked in graceful pose, Alice Flechtheim, nudist
Back stamped, 18.0 x 13.0 cm, very good condition. Minimal signs of age at the edges, corners minimally bumped.
Riebicke was a significant German photographer in the first half of the 20th century. He specialized in sports, dance and nude photography. His complete archive in Berlin was destroyed in WW II. Until 1933, Gerhard Riebicke’s photos were published in countless books and magazines. 3 of his photos even made it into the prestigious annual album “Das Deutsche Lichtbild”.
In 2000 a book was published based on his first monographic exhibition of his nude photographs by the gallery Bodo Niemann, Berlin. In 2002 a comprehensive retrospective was exhibited at the Museum of Photography in Moscow. Photos by Gerhard Riebicke are exhibited in numerous German and international museums.
As the bulk of the work by Riebicke was destroyed, one can assume that his vintage prints are unique.
