Gerhard Richter
1932 - Born in Dresden on the 9th of February.
1951 - Accepted to study at the National Academy of Arts in Dresden.
1953 - Main course in the subject of wall painting with Heinz Lohmar.
1956 - Graduation with a wall painting in the ‘Deutsches Hygienemuseum’ in Dresden. Subsequently three years of postgraduate studies with his own studio at the National Academy of Arts in Dresden.
1961 - Escape from the GDR. He studied at the National Academy of Arts Düsseldorf with K.O. Götz.
1967 - Visiting lecturer at the University of Visual Arts in Hamburg.
1971 - Professor at the National Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf.
1973 - First solo exhibition at the Reinhard Onnasch Gallery in New York.
1978 - Visiting professor at the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax.
1988 - Visiting professor at the Städelschule, Frankfurt/M. Kaiserring award from the city of Goslar.
2001 - Honorary doctorate from the University of Leuven.
2002 - Retrospective at the Museum of Modern Arts in New York.
2007 - Honorary citizenship awarded by the city of Cologne. Gerhard Richter lives and works in Cologne, Germany. His pieces are the most expensive by a living artist in the art market. (
