Antique Indian wedding chest (1) - Wood - India - 1900-1925

Very fine and authentic Indian Wedding Chest. Made by a craftsman, with beautiful copper inlay and lots of wood carvings among other things. This design was mainly used as a Wedding Chest for the trousseau and other valuables the bride would bring into the marriage, early last century. Measurements: 43 deep, 45 high, 75 wide. Material is hardwood, very likely to be teak. Wedding Chest is in mint condition and a jewel for every type of interior, in this state very rare and sought for. Chest has the usual signs of wear. Several spots were restored by a furniture maker. The flap hinges, for example, were virtually destroyed and have been replaced by solid copper hinges. (which may be worn a bit more if the buyer prefers this) The spot the original hinges were attached to was damaged on the back and missing a few pieces. New pieces of wood have been placed here professionally. Outside of that, the chest remains entirely authentic. The right block with copper inlay is missing 2 pieces of copper, but this was left alone. On photo no. 16, of the right flap hinge, there is something that looks like a crack in the wood (left of the hinge). However, this is not a crack, but a shallow scratch filled with mordant or wax, and only looks like one! Two perfect imperfections, so to speak. The photos give a very good impression of the condition this chest is in, and make up part of the description. Considering the size, pick-up is preferred, though shipping is possible ONLY in the Netherlands. Outside of the Netherlands, shipping is not possible because of size and weight! For a small surcharge, the chest will be packaged well before shipping with Track and Trace.
