Large copper Winkworth bell - used on British police cars and ambulances
The Winkworth bell was used on police cars and ambulances from the 1930s until the end of the 1950s.
This is a large, heavy, copper bell and they also came in a smaller nickel-plated model.
It is entirely complete with a functioning mechanism.
This large and heavy model presumably comes from a commando vehicle or an officer’s car.
A specially crafted wooden foot is mounted below the bell where the original foot used to be mounted. The wooden foot is of course not original.
Very nice, functioning piece (see pictures).
